The importance of proper eye
protection in the racquet sports cannot be stressed too
forcefully. Already widely accepted (often being obligatory)
in squash and racquetball, proper eye protection is also
an issue in badminton, tennis and table tennis. In fact,
the badminton shuttlecock, because of its hard cork base
and rapid rotation, is more dangerous to the eye than the
balls used in the other sports mentioned above. That is
why many schools require eye protection for badminton and
why most Canadian badminton associations have instituted
programs to make eye protection mandatory at the junior
levels.
